‘Lonely gay male seeks snuggle buddy Serious inuiries only’ California author Nathan Bay made an impressive debut with KING OF THE SEA Nathan continues to demonstrate his up front artistry by designing the covers of his novels from his own photographs Solid steps suggest that Nathan is a professional artist and his debut assured his position among writers of gay romance and fiction Or as he phrases it his novels are ‘about ordinary people faced with extraordinary circumstances His characters fight for love while fighting to save their lives pitted against the dark forces of evil who threaten to take it all away’ Add to that an appreciation and gift for the value of well scribed erotica and Nathan Bay is presentTo taste the uniue flavor of his gruesomely realistic thrillererotic novel it is only necessary to read the first page to witness how seductive Nathan scribes – ‘It was a day so perfect he just knew something bad was going to ruin it Isaiah could feel it in the pit of his stomach; that sick prickly sense of dread that always came along just when things were going his way He wondered if it was intuition or a self fulfilling prophecy Was he sabotaging his own happiness? His mother called it the law of attraction Whatever you think about you wish into existence She didn't come up with it herself she learned about it from this lady named Oprah back when Isaiah was younger That's all he heard about until he was in junior high and then his mother learned about feng shui Feng shui was the ancient Chinese art of getting rid of pointy things They had to throw out all their nice furniture because it had sharp edges Some of it had been in the family for generations Isaiah's nana was furious Everything was replaced with round furniture from Ikea Then his mom moved around the rooms in their home to re align their chi chi Or was it chai? Isaiah pondered Starbucks makes something called Chai Latte That can't be right Well it was something with a ch sound She'd made him move his bed into the laundry room because she said that's where his success corner was According to her he'd grow up to have a healthy prosperous future and lots of luck in love She was divorced and he was an only child so there was a lot of pressure to do well He'd just turned eighteen in August and started his senior year He couldn't say for certain if his good chai had paid off but he made mostly A's and B's in school and the laundry room's next door proximity to the garage made it super easy to sneak out and hook up with boys Yay for that But today felt different The sky was a bright blue that made the whole world look like a happy place There were no clouds just golden rays of sunlight It was the second weekend in September and the oppressive heat and humidity of Tennessee's summer was fading into crisp coolness Soon the tree leaves would be turning over to autumn's fiery color palette The hot guy in the driver's seat DownlowMo was taking him on a leisurely ride through the countryside His stupid screen name was forgivable because he was dad as fuck Yum Late thirties early forties maybe Isaiah couldn't tell but he was way older with dark hair combed back in thick luscious waves His strong suare jawline made his face look like it was carved from stone He was a real gentleman tooetc’ A rather innocent opening to a bloodbath to come saturated in steamy eroticaBut Nathan supplies a fine synopsis for his strange story Cold hearted murder and smoldering hot sex explode in this fluid drenched gay erotic thriller about a blossoming new romance and a youth obsessed serial killer Gay men are mysteriously disappearing from the city of Nashville There are no bodies no evidence of a crime and police are turning a blind eye to the pattern But this is the South where juicy gossip and sordid rumors spread like wildfire Is a murderer at large stealthily slaughtering innocent victims? And if so who is he and how can he be stopped? Meanwhile Roger Willis just turned forty He's newly divorced and struggling to find his place in the gay dating scene Instant access to sex is available through apps and a careless stranger can reject him with a single swipe to the left Cool callous technology has replaced the warmth of getting to know someone through eye contact a friendly handshake and casual conversation His dream of finding love again is beginning to feel hopeless Everything changes when a handsome young man named Ben Hudson comes along and suddenly Roger's world doesn't seem so lonely There's relationship potential but Roger has secrets He didn't survive four decades and a failed marriage without a few skeletons in his closet What will happen when Ben flings the door open and the secrets come spilling out? Lies will be told Hearts will be broken Fluids will be spilled It's going to be a bloodbath’Very fine writing this and a signal that there is a strong new voice with uniue characteristics surfacing in California Keep an eye on this young artist

I was drawn into this story from the very first sentences It was a day so perfect he just knew something bad was going to ruin itIsaiah could feel it in the pit of his stomach; that sick prickly sense of dread that always came along just when things were going his way He wondered if it was intuition or a self fulfilling prophecy Was he sabotaging his own happiness?Against a backdrop of mysterious deaths of young gay men in Nashville 40 year old Roger reinvents himself as a sexy lumbersexual after the end of a 20 year relationship with his ex husband and ventures into the world of dating After meeting gorgeous 24 year old Ben at a bar the two men uick move into a relationship that is sweet and very sexy But when Ben learns that Roger has kept an important secret from him that's a deal breaker I really enjoyed the first 65% of this story but then things got weird view spoilerWe learn that Ben has a secret of his own porn and lying about his age and it has brought him a sick twisted stalker Sabrina Peter and Ernesto main characters in Nathan Bay's earlier book The Invisible Plan are very uickly introduced and team up with Roger to save Ben from the stalkerkiller hide spoiler

YOUNG FOREVER is a fun hot and sexy thriller with gay themed mystery and romance that is developed in layers from beginning to end The book is set in Nashville and is written in a way that the city comes to life as a character as well The story takes off as gay men begin disappearing without a trace and law enforcement are not inclined to investigate too deeplyRoger Willis is the protagonist who is newly divorced and looking for love and sex through the apps that have changed the way men meet each other for better or for worse Yes the sex is instant easy and readily available But Roger wants than that and begins to despair at ever finding love again Roger’s love life and other parts begin to come back to life when he meets Ben who is young handsome and sexy the old fashioned way – at a bar one nightNot everyone is what they seem at first and the layers are pulled back on secrets in ways that build suspense and tension that kept me turning the pages until the very end If you are looking for a sexy thriller that packs in a search for love you will enjoy YOUNG FOREVER5 stars

Let me just say this is not romance nor a standard romantic suspense novel It starts as a murder mystery with the murderer and a victim in a rather crude sex scene It switches to Roger on his 40th birthday at a bar for the first time after divorcing from his husband of 20 years Ben who states he’s 24 responds to Roger and they begin seeing each other accompanied by sex scenes that are uite raw and honest not the romanticized kind found in my usual reading It read uite well with the men falling for each other until Roger reveals a huge secret that he stupidly kept from Ben Ben breaks up with him and then the story becomes really screwy Ben’s friends are characters from a prior book that I guess was sci fi and they get added into events that descend into bad horror story territory and ending as a cliffhanger I suppose a seuel is coming because so much about Roger and even about Ben was just left dangling It became far too absurd for me though when I was expecting a straight up realistic murder mystery 3 stars though because I did read the whole thing fairly easily

This was a very addicting albeit short read It's a well written thrillerromance balance while also providing some excellent commentary on the gay community as a whole I was interested in how the two seemingly separate stories the mystery and the romance would be relevant to one another until they suddenly were Both the antagonist of the book and Roger share similar fears surrounding growing old which I think everyone has to some extent but is much prevalent in the gay community because snap decisions are made based on appearance so often This kind of social commentary served up by the central protagonist and the antagonist as personality traits was a really nice touchI was a bit confused by Max's motives surrounding the murders but it's not something that detracts away from the discovery of the purpose of his crimesI would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a central thrillermystery balanced against romance plots a la Jane the Virgin or Devious Maids A really excellent read

Giving this book a fine 5 stars rating The author has chosen to give his mystery storyline a twist of reality and really makes the reader think about life and that anything may happen at any time Without giving too much of the story Roger and Ben really are meant for each other at the end regardless of the lies and conflicts they had to experience and the deaths they had to witness One of them must suffer Who will it be? Read it and find out ; Young Forever definitely kept me flipping pages until the end Fantastically written for the authors only second book Keep them coming

I thoroughly enjoyed this story I was surprised that it ended so abruptly that I just sat here shaking my head The mystery was done well as was Ben and Roger's story The two woven together was brilliant Kudos Mr Bay

I do think this is by far the best of the three books My biggest criticism of these books are the characters I don’t connect with them The stories are fine but I don’t feel compelled to root for them It’s fine

  10. says:

I couldn't get into this one so I just ended up skim reading through it but I think it may be on me and not the book as I have been in a bit of a slump with my reading
